attached to the Nautica 4000 or a PC
running terminal emulation software or
a Telnet session. With support for BCC,
NauticaRS provides command line syn-
tax, which is consistent with other Bay
Networks platforms that support BCC.
Nautica Configuration Wizard
Bay Networks Nautica Configuration
Wizard is a Windows 95 Wizard applica-
tion that provides an easy-to-use GUI to
set up and configure the Nautica 4000.
HTML This feature provides useful
status information on the Nautica 4000
using HTML. Users are provided plat-
form independent access to useful
information including routing table,
active ISDN calls,ISDN history,and cur-
rent NAT table. This information can
be accessed via standard Web browers
such as Netscape or Internet Explorer.
Security
NauticaRS allows authorized remote
users to reach all the information they
need while protecting the entire net-
work from nonsanctioned access.
Supports for RADIUS,a standards-based
authentication system,lets the Nautica
4000 fit easily into an organization’s
existing network security design. This
client/server-based security protocol
makes it easy to manage large-scale
remote access applications from a cen-
tral site. The Nautica 4000 is supported
by Bay Networks Nautica RADIUS
Server for Windows 95 and Windows
NT. RADIUS offers network-wide
accounting,authentication,and autho-
rization to service providers and net-
work managers who need to maintain
security when remote access is
required. Several levels of comprehen-
sive security features are provided
including the CLI feature,which veri-
fies that incoming ISDN calls are autho-
rized to connect. For PPP connections,
PAP and CHAP are supported. The
Nautica 4000’s RADIUS implementation
will operate with other third-party
RADIUS servers.
The Nautica 4000 also supports
Bay Networks BaySecure
Access Con-
trol (BSAC) RADIUS. Based on award
winning technology,BSAC is an indus-
try-standard,remote access user authen-
tication,authorization,and accounting
solution for ISPs and enterprises. BSAC
is the only RADIUS server optimized
for Windows NT,NetWare,and UNIX
Solaris environments and the only tool
integrating network operating system
user directories while including
embedded databases,vendor specific
attributes,GUI-based user profiles,and
real-time statistics for managing remote
access security.
6 Data Sheet Nautica 4000
Dial Backup The Nautica 4000 can
use ISDN to back up a dedicated link.
In the event that the dedicated link
goes down,the Nautica 4000 activates
the ISDN connection. When the dedi-
cated link is restored, the Nautica 4000
terminates the backup connection and
resumes use of the dedicated link.
Minimum Call Duration Timer
The Minimum Call Duration Timer is
particularly cost-effective when an ISDN
line is activated frequently for small
data transfers. This feature minimizes
recurring WAN costs by applying a set
minimum call charge period. The ISDN
line will be kept active for the duration
of the minimum call period,allowing
any subsequent data transfers to take
place without clearing and subse-
quently redialing a second ISDN call.
Configuration and Management
With NauticaRS software,the Nautica
4000 provides many features that
simplify configuration and provide
SNMP-based network management
capabilities. The Nautica 4000 can
be configured and managed from any
local or remote ANSI-standard terminal
or from a PC on the network using
Telnet. SNMP-based management
systems including HP OpenView,Tivoli
NetView for AIX,and Sun Microsystems
Solstice Domain Manager can be used
to manage the Nautica 4000.
BCC This terminal-based (Teletype
(TTY)-compatible) tool enables plat-
form installation and maintenance to
be performed locally or from a remote
location such as the central site. It
can be accessed through a terminal
